After a disappointing opening days result against Montrose, Saturday saw Harris bounce back to record a hefty defeat over an inexperienced and under strength Stobswell side who stuck gamefully to their task but who were eventually overwhelmed by an experienced opponent.
Receiving the kick-off Harris took the ball into the Stobswell half, and it was there that the majority of the game was played. The first try came after 3rd minutes of play when, following a tap penalty, Harris Captain Phil Yeaman lead by example and went over. Harris were being made to work in order to score and had to wait until the 20th minute when following a quick ruck-ball in midfield, the ball was passed down the line with Adam Wood going over in the corner. 4 more tries (Dave Wright, Mike Dalrymple (2), John Mills) in 12 minutes with 2 converted by Ken Clarkson, saw Harris go into half-time leading 34 - 0.
The second half was a repeat of the first, with Harris encamped in the Stobswell half. Tries were scored at regular intervals as a combination of good play and missed tackles saw Harris score 10 more tries, converting six. The pick of the bunch saw a loose kick ahead by Stobswell picked up by Mike McDonald, who chipped over the on-coming defence, collected his kick before passing to Peter Bruce. The ball was recycled quickly and passed down the line, with John Mills eventually going over to score beneath the posts.
All in all it was a great game played in good spirit in front of a healthy and at some points excitable Elliot Road crowd!
