CHRISTMAS NIGHT OUT
Lads the festive season is upon us. It's time to head for the pub and escape the Festive Banter, allow the "little woman" to head for the shops unhindered by male company, get in some much needed male bonding before all the family stuff...need I go on?
We have a number of fresh faces at the Club and it seems like a fine time to get ourselves off to a quiet pub for a beer or two. Doggy has booked the upstairs area of "The Old Horseshoe Bar" in Commercial Street for our exclusive use. The pub is next to "The Olde Travel Agents" across the road from "The Olde Printers and Stationers" and up the road from "The Olde Body Shoppe".
There will not be a full Court session, mainly due to the fact some of us are grown up enough to have real jobs and therefore no time to erse about organising things. There is likely to be a "Pleading Diet" (I am prepared to stand corrected by a legal advisor) for serious offenders however this will be discussed nearer the time. A kitty will be in operation, £15 per head for starters.
It is highly likely that not adhering to official Club dress will result in punishment, those who have not purchased a Club Dress need not be alarmed and will be granted a stay of execution.
Please note that unlike Elliot Road this event will definitely not be a casualty of the weather and WILL be on no matter what! Please make an effort to be there, the Karaoke won't sound the same with just Joe singing!
APPOINTMENT OF COACH
Over the past 12 months the Club has been working hard to appoint a suitable Coach to assist with the development of the players and to help take the Club forward in the coming years. It is with great pleasure we can now announce that Bruce Beckett has agreed to fill the vacant position. For those of you who attended some of Bruce's sessions last season you will already know how beneficial his input has been. We can be confident that we have appointed one of the top coaches in the area, a further statement of our ambition to take the Club forward. Bruce is a former pupil of the School and former player and has a wealth of coaching experience behind him having coached at Premier level in the past. The challenge now is for all players to make the most of this valuable asset by giving Bruce numbers at training that he can work with.
PRE-SEASON TRAINING
Pre-season training will commence on Tuesday 1 July, 7.00 at Elliot Road. Thereafter Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7pm, Saturdays 2pm.
We are also hoping to announce a "training camp" event in early August.
Preseason fixtures are currently being arranged for the Saturdays immediately prior to league business commencing 30 August.
HARRIS 2nd XV REVIVAL
Harris reached another milestone in the resurgence of the Club in only the 2nd year of our resurrection when a 2nd XV was fielded for the first time. While the 1st XV League fixture against Stobswell was called off due to the pitch, our 2nd XV played their first game, away to Carnoustie 2nd XV. What's more remarkable is that this happened while the full 1st XV squad were being put through their paces at Mayfield Sports Centre by Club Coach Bruce Beckett. A full team lined up against Carnoustie with three substitutes on the touch line. Not content with just getting a game the team went on to record a well deserved victory.
This was a great moment for the Club. To field a 2nd XV for one game is great, but our next aim must be to field that team on a regular basis. This, I know will not be easy but I feel confident of success.
May I take this opportunity of welcoming all the 'new' players to the Club. You have made it all possible and I hope that you enjoy playing for Harris and continue to do so. We have always been a friendly Club and I hope you enjoy your time with us both on and off the field.
