Arbroath elected to kick-off and this gave us the opportunity to attack from the outset. From the kick the ball came back to Ken Clarkson who hoisted the ball up the line. Under pressure from a combination of our attackers and the ball moving about in the wind the Arbroath winger knocked-on, giving a scrum to us. The ball was moved through a few phases and Arbroath were penalised at the breakdown. We opted to kick to touch and from the resulting line-out Richie McIver drove over for the try, converted by Ken Clarkson. (7 – 0).

This early try stung Arbroath and they responded by attacking our back division, however our defence held firm and Arbroath were forced to kick. The kick forced Dally to scramble back and run over our try-line before kicking clear from behind the posts.

At this early stage our lineout was not working as smoothly as it should as it was being disrupted by the gusting wind and from Arbroath competing for the ball. This forced us to change tactics and we started to keep the ball close, tying in the Arbroath forwards before releasing our backs.

In 15 minutes Arbroath were penalised for coming in from the side. Kenny missed the kick to touch but the bounce of the ball caused confusion in the Arbroath defence before it was eventually hacked clear. This time we got clean ball from the lineout and the ball was shipped down the line, with dally going over in the corner. Kenny converted from wide out on the left and against the wind. (14 - 0).

In 19 minutes we extended our lead. Deep in our half, Milney threw a dummy pass before gaining ground. He drew in the winger before giving a perfectly timed pass out to John Mills. John still had a lot to do and from half way had the pace to get round the fullback before burning off the covering defence. Kenny added the extra two points. (21 - 0).

10 minutes later we got our fourth try. Dave Bowen made ground down the left before passing to Jamie Barker. Jamie was stopped just before the line, however the ball was quickly recycled and Richie McIver went over in the left corner for his second try. (26 - 0).

In 35 minutes Colin Gourley got his name on the scorecard. Arbroath were penalised for not retreating following a defensive kick. The penalty was taken quickly by Ken Clarkson who fed the ball out to Colin who went over in the right-hand corner. (31 - 0).

Colin was to the fore, this time in defence, a couple of minutes later. Arbroath peeled off from the back of a maul but Colin snuffed out the danger by attacking the ball carrier and driving him 5 metres back.

Half-time Reflections: We were playing some superbly controlled rugby with strong running by both forwards and backs and took our scoring chances when they came along. Some loose kicking though was giving Arbroath chances to attack but our defence was holding firm.
Half-Time Score: 31 – 0
Full Time Score: 65 – 0
Arbroath were first to attack in the second-half, hoisting the ball high into the wind. This time it was our turn to fail to deal with the high ball. The ball came back on the Arbroath side and they made their way into our 22. A dropped pass however allowed Chaz to regain possession for us. He slipped the ball to Marc Wilson who showed his power and pace in the long run to the line before going in under the posts.  Kenny added the two points.
(38 - 0).

Two more tries followed in quick succession. The first was by Jamie Barker who broke the back of a maul mid-way in the Arbroath half. His dummy ala Milney bought him some space and he made for the line. He was tackled short of the line but his momentum carried him over. (43 - 0). The second followed a scrum on half-way after Arbroath had failed to kick the re-start 10 metres. We loaded the left side and with the ball secure at his feet, Richie broke right before passing to Rory Wares. Rory made more ground and his pass put John Mills in the clear. He was tackled short of the line. We retained possession and the ball was eventually passed down the line to Marc Wilson who went over in the left corner. (48 - 0).

In 55 minutes we almost added to our lead. Adam Wood kicked ahead and chased after the ball, however he was just beaten to the touchdown.

We were now applying constant pressure on Arbroath. A great break out from our own half saw first Richie McIver take the ball on before passing to Dave Wright who gave a superb pass out the tackle to Yeamsy. Arbroath were penalised for encroaching at the ruck which saw us kick to touch. The line-outs were now working, and saw the forwards take the ball on before Richie broke clear and go over. (53 - 0).

We scored immediately from the kick-off. The ball was collected in by Yeamsy who gave a good off-load to Adam Wood. Woody threw a dummy outside before running around his opposite number and scoring below the posts. Joe Abbott, this time adding the two points. (60 - 0).

Right on full-time we completed our scoring. Peter ‘Snakey’ Bruce broke clear from a scrum, his pass to Rory Wares allowed Rory to feed Woody who went over in the right corner. (65 - 0).

Full-time Reflections: This was a game which we dominated from start to finish and in which everyone involved played their part. Our forwards gave a lot of good, quick clean ball back to our scrum-half. This gave our backs the time and space to show the pace they have.

Arbroath never gave up and competed manfully right up to the final whistle and our defence was severely tested on occasions. Again, both forwards and backs played their part in preventing Arbroath from crossing our line.

There was however a couple of casualties during the game. Dave Wright went to A & E with a broken hand and an Arbroath player was also there with a broken cheek-bone though, I hasten to add, it did not happen in the same incident.

The Man of The Match Award was again hotly contested with Richie McIver, Milney, Ken Clarkson and John Mills all to the fore. The eventual winner was Snakey whose all-action approach saw him just shade it.
